First Air Raid real test!
We’ll make them cry for mercy!
They won’t know what hit them - Earl Campbell, Shipley & Mafah will work them over then the TE’s down the seam, then Air Raid every time they cheat up!

I’m afraid that’s wishful thinking. Unrealistic expectations

You haven't seen all of our WRs yet. Some will not be enrolled until summer.

Cole Turner has legit deep threat speed and has shown really soft hands and tracking ability. Some of the FR coming in could also help us a big way as mentioned.
Besides that; I think college defenses have gotten more sophisticated and use to the "basic spread"! Which I think handcuffed us some. We won NC with the offense we were running so; to just stop running it would take some doing. Enter the last few years! The change should show up in the form of getting WR's to spots where their ability to catch and run and be exploited. And, as proven by several schools who run it well, "you do not have to have all 5-star WR's to put up yards" if the offense is run well!
And, that's not my opinion, that's something that can be proven by looking at schools that have run this system against teams with superior talent.
And, Beaux, Antonio, and Randall just off the top of my head were all at least 4-star recruit. Noble Johnson is going to help us ths year. Would I like to have a Ray Ray McCloud, Artavis Scott, Hunter Renfrow or Amari Rogers for quick underneath passes? Yes! But, I feel we have some options that will emerge there.

Agree. Really hoping that Randall has a break out season. Noble may turn some heads. Then of course Collins. I will agree we need to get back to recruiting and developing top WR. Compete for the tops in the country etc... but I don't think it'll be our weakness this year.

Humble Servant I do think you are right.
Looking at some Hal Mumme interviews and Mike Leach videos everything Coach Riley is saying along with Richardson seems to be in line with the original concept of the scheme.
The Air Raid is nothing more than the spread "unless you do two major things"!
1. Practice it a particular and meticilious way so that even if the defense is right; "they are wrong"! And practice it at nauseum, so the offense knows the adjustments w/o thinking. 2. Run to grass - oppposed to running the route to the defender. In other words, if the defense is where the route indicates you end up; the adjustment will be where the most green grass is. Which is why you practice it so much so WR and QB know how each other sees "the open grass"!
It can look rough at 1st until everyone gets on the same page. But, once it's all clicking, it's very difficult to stop. Especially with a mobile QB. I was fortunate; or rather unfortunate enough to see Richardsons Air Raid when he was at Northwestern. They were beating my South Pointe Stallions back then with that offense. But, if you caught Northwestern early in the season, you could beat them and often they didn't look good "early"! But, nobody in the state or country wanted them at the end of the season. Which is why he put 4 QB's in CFB. One or two National H.S. offensive players of the year(Mason Rudolph or Justin Worley).
Richardson had hooked up with Lincoln Riley and Garrett when they were in East Carolina. He had also received tuteedge from Mumme and a little from Leach before that.
I am super excited to now have Riley and Richardson heading the Clemson offense!

Once the WR's learn how to adjust their routes; it's going to allow them to play fast!
I think if you have an offense that was based on, "running a particular route to a particular part, depth, area of the field and the defense of course have studied and know this it's easier to gameplan for"! In this offense; even if the defense is in perfect position the WR's job is to adjust their route to where the open grass is, "Period". This should mean, once they rep it so much they don't even think about it(going to open grass) that "they adjust to where the defense isn't instinctively"!
This basically means instead of being a step slow if a defender is where they were going because they are wondering what to do; they now have the freedom to go to where the open grass is.
Which is why Mumme and Leach and Lincoln Riley often say, "it's all in how you rep it"!
QB and WR's need to see the open grass adjustment the same.
Once that happens; because of the built in advantage the offense has being that they know where they are going and the defense has to react, we should see improvement in WR play.
But, not until a bunch of reps are put in. Rep after rep after rep after rep. Of basically, the same play until both QB and WR start adjusting pass and route to the same open grass area of the field where the defense isn't.

My daughter went to Northwestern when Moose Wallace was the coach. I think he retired around the time she graduated. Richardson came in as head coach and did a great job. I think he’ll do very well at Clemson. He’s also a life-long tiger fan.
