Way into the SEC or BIG unless they both go to 24.
At 18, the BIG will save a spot for Notte Dame and one more to 20. That means we would maybe be a part of 24.
SEC is happy with 16 and dont seem to be pressured by BIG going to 18 or larger. Not sure ESPN has the money for them to expand. Not sure either conference could get the money necessary to go beyond 18 to 20.
If SEC did decide 20, maybe we get in on that.
Honestly, I was hoping BIGten. Now I'll be happy with either one.

ND will stay independent. No reason to join a conference..

The only thing to get them in a conference is if its a pre-requisite for playoffs, not TV contracts... and that won't happen.
The B1G not taking either Cal or Stanford tells you that they will turn South. Clemson meets the "4 million viewership" threshold. Listen to "Genesis" on Youtube explain how the networks approach this. He worked in a couple of AD offices, and for the networks.

There’s also the fact that it would cost them $150 mil exit fee if they joined any conference other than the ACC.

I think ND would sign a similar deal with the B1G as they

have now with the ACC. They would move their other sports to the B1G, and sign a scheduling agreement for football. It would make the B1G's contract that much more valuable, and would likely increase ND's NBC deal.

I don’t believe for a minute the SEC’s content. The B1G just added two programs that will both be vying for a playoff spot every year. I think they have to respond to ensure the B1G doesn’t have a majority within the playoff every year especially when it goes to 16. The B1G is already set to make more money than the SEC in the long run.
At this point I’d be “happier” if we managed to break the GOR and join the big 12 with fsu, Louisville, Miami and VT.

ND needs a conf for all other sports and for scheduling

Once the ACC is dissolved, ND has to find another conf arrangement. With there being fewer and fewer options for them, they will ultimately join the B1G. The B1G knows this, they are just waiting on them to come to daddy.

the Playoffs expanding to 12 after this year, the pressure for ND to join a conference, if there ever really was any, goes away.
I honestly do not know WHAT the endgame of the BIG is when it comes to expansion. They don't really seem to have a stopping point in mind. They are going to have some wild scheduling issues ahead. You will almost certainly wind up with situations where a player may play their entire college career without having played some of his conferences fellow member schools. Kind of defeats the the purpose of being in that conference, don't you think?

It only mentions us tangled in legal rights but no mention of another conference for us.

ND is an over sign type player. The B1G won’t save a space for em first because they don’t seem likely to join a conference, and 2nd because they would be the type of add you just figure out how to make work; just like that 5 star generational DE that you didn’t think would flip on signing day.

Southeast POD. Then they stop. SEC may or may not make moves to counter them. That is where things stand.

B1G has added some solid teams. They are definitely going to be pushing the SEC. SEC has not had that much competition as far as being the top tier conference.
Big 12 looked dead and will now be the 3rd best conference on paper at least.
