Harvard, Princeton, Yale….

These 3 Ivy League schools have a chance to return to greatness in football. All three are in the top 10 all time for most football national championships. The money that flows through those schools is next level. And the money that flows through top football programs is tremendous. I can see boosters using NIL and their paychecks to bring the best recruits back to the IVY leaguers. Any way you slice it NIL is a bad thing for college athletics. Is it good for the athletes? Well in a sense of financial wealth yes. But as so many people set examples out there poor judgment with tons of money leads to bad things.

I bet they win a Natty in the next 4 years. Once this NIl stuf gets rolling bigtime it’ll be the schools with the most money hoarding all the top talent. Not the schools with the best coaching/academics/atmosphere/family environment.

Georgia has proven for decades that extremely good talent doesn't equal championships.

The powers to be would have to care in the IVY League

but football is below them.
Let's be honest, if a school like Princeton or Harvard decided they wanted to be a football powerhouse again they could have done it long before the NIL.
The most important thing in the IVY League is student rejection rates...that is their football. They battle to be the most "exclusive" school in the U.S.

I think the boosters at those schools have made it clear

that money is to be directed to academics and not athletics.

Neither the alums nor the current student bodies care much for football. I will say however that they definitely know how to tailgate. Ivy League football will never be a thing again except maybe for Cornell.

They won’t ever be dominant at football unless they relax their academic requirements.

Unlike the football powers that relax admission standards significantly for football players, the Ivy League still expects their student-athletes to be comparable to the general student body in their high school grades and test scores. They actually keep the student in student-athlete, rather than making it all about football.
Good for them! They’ve done it the right way and maintained the integrity of higher education.

They might not lower their standards for football, but they will in the name of diversity.

That might give them a little wiggle room

but you won't see a football player with a 1000 SAT going there, no matter how great he is at football.

I've been a lurker for a few years doing the "read-only" option but this got me to activate an account. My wife and I are Clemson Tigers (graduated mid 90's) but have a kid who is currently a Princeton Tiger undergrad. Some observations re: the ivy league...#1 For better or worse, the Ivy schools don't put football or really any other sport as a big priority. They cancelled pretty much everything last year except for some Track and Field just out of an abundance of precaution for COVID. (An overreaction IMO, but it was what it was.) #2 They take few to no students that can't cut it academically. I mean, sure they'd love a 5 star QB to play for them, but not at the expense of losing their school's academic cred. #3 So far, I've found all the alums and students super laid back about sports. They are happy if their team does well but they don't live or die by the losses. The tailgate scene under normal circumstances apparently is pretty fun as well, but obviously not to the level of Clemson. Maybe Vandy or Duke LOL.

Stanford might stand a chance to take a big leap, they have consistently maintained a gridiron presence.
