I think that the Panthers should trade Cam Newton

and their # 7 pick to the Bengals for a chance to pick #1 and take Joe Burrow.
I know he is not the most popular guy here, but the Panthers need to do something at QB and Burrow and Brady have proven to be a pretty potent combination - so far.

Why would the Bengals ever do that?

Panthers would have to give up more picks than just #7.

Not a Chance Cincy Takes that offer

Just using the NFL trade value chart,
It would take Carolina's 1 & 2 + Cam Plus a round 1 or 2 next year. And that's assuming Newton is healthy (no guarantee) and that he'd be worth a round 2 pick.

Congrats on getting the top QB prospect, too bad you can't build anything around him now because you have no other meaningful assets for 2 years.

He's might be worth a 4th to some team but it would take at least 2 rnd1's & a 2nd or 3rd this yr & that's w/o others bidding for the Bengal's pick-

I'm thinking the Panthers need a lot more than just a QB right now. Other than McCaffrey, I'm not sure the Panthers have a top player on their roster. Cam might be the second best player on the team right now, and I'm not a big fan of Cam at all!

Panthers need defensive players with losing what they are losing. they will find a suitable quarterback in the mean time.

available for awhile. They have holes everywhere on that roster.
Trading down for more picks and tanking for #1 in 2021 seem like good things to pursue.

They have no chance of that happening. Bengals would laugh at that. They should trade him though and tank next year and take Trevor Lawrence with the 1st pick the next year.

right price. He's fantastic, but the Panthers are just running him into the ground right now and by the time they can rebuild the rest of the team, he's probably not going to have any tread left on the tires.
I wonder what kind of trade value he has right now.

if the Panthers traded McCaffery too, the fans would revolt and ticket sales would spiral downward like a weak flushing toilet.

Thats definitely the risk you take with tanking but

that also comes with the potential for exciting young players (like TL) coming in a year later. I don't think tanking for 1 year is that big of a deal. It's when you get to Sam Hinkie-level tanking that you really run the risk of alienating fans. The Sixers tanked for, what, 4 straight years?

Why trade for Cam when you could pick him up later if Carolina releases him, which will be likely unless he agrees to restructure his contract? Carolina is on the hook for $21 million if they keep him versus $2 if they keep him. They also would get a 3rd round compensation pick when somebody else picks him up.

Saving $19 million and getting a 3rd round pick out of it. Why would they want to? It would be different if he could stay healthy, but it has been nothing to show that is likely.
