If you were Brownell, how would you fix things at Clemson?

I’m curious! Things that would possibly help Clemson’s basketball program take that next step and be a dominant threat every year??? Talking 20 wins a season minimum.

I'd hope Hunter Tyson comes back for his last year. I think he has one more due to covid rule. Fox is on scholarship but probably will leave so we can pick up a transfer that spot and with the signees I think we could still get another transfer.
Beadle needs to play a few of the last games but still keep his redshirt assuming there isnt some injury issue. They need to see him in some game situations to see if he can help next season. If not maybe we find another transfer.
And probably another couple will leave we don't expect. They usually do.

Retire and hope Clemson hires a quality coach. CBB has proved his top performance and at point of blaming players we need coaches to take the hurt on the chin.
Living on the fall and rise of the Transfer Portal, that is what a coach in a Mid-Tier school would live with if they made the NCAA every 4-5yrs but end up in top 3rd of their conference.
CBB could get a good mid-tier team and be in the NCAA tournament more than he is at Clemson. Time for Clemson to treat their fans to a quality coach as we have lived for 6-8yrs on a serviceable college coach.

The best path for Bradley is to make sure football is as successful as possible. As long as football money rolls in, the A.D. has zero motivation to improve basketball or baseball. I imagine for Bradley, baseball season can’t start soon enough to ease the glare shining off that putrid program he runs.
Strangely enough, in the 90’s when football was sinking to the cellar of the ACC, basketball was flying high in Tigertown.
It really is amazing that schools like Wake Forest and NCState will actually make an effort to get rid of bad coaches yet Clemson has essentially given up on one of the Top 3 sports in the athletic department.
But hey, everyone gets a hard on for lady sports and softball nowadays so maybe basketball and baseball are 4th and 5th in the athletic department

I'd make sure that the team goal for next year would be to score more points than our opponent.

DISGRACEFUL BUT TELLING….

That every response I’ve read so far from all the arm chair experts doesn’t legitimately try to answer the question asked by this post. It’s just more of the same negativity against CBB. Thats telling because those same arm chair coaches don’t have answers - just complaints.
I’m proud of this Tiger team and the entire coaching staff despite the results. Personally, I still believe in this group.
I believe the answer to the question in this post is about recruiting and the right selection of our transfer portal players each year. I love the grit of Collins and Bohannon but also believe we must find some experienced 3-point shooters in the portal. I still hope Hemingway will improve but he’s too mechanical which I believe leads to inconsistency. We need to find what we wanted in him with demonstrated performance over several years somewhere else.
Go Tigers!

to think that players in the Portal are much more desirable than recruiting players out of high school. I myself tend to believe the OPPOSITE is true. The overwhelming majority of players in the Portal are there because they could not beat out others at their position to get playing time. You can try to sugarcoat it any way you want, but that is the underlying theme of the Portal, I, ME, NOW. Rico's time is NOW!
Saying Brad Brownell is not a successful recruiter is not being negative, it is being TRUTHFUL. He seems to have flipped the ###### from what most coaches do, and recruits mostly out of the Portal. This, right away puts Clemson at a disadvantage, because by and large, Portal players have used up at least some portion of their eligibility prior to ever coming here. So, the team is in a constant state of rebuild from year to year.
Secondly, as last night once again painfully proved, Brad Brownell has not the first clue about how to do late game time management. He also has no clue about how to dial up a set play to get a high percentage shot at the end. Think about this. The BEST three point shooters are only successful about 33% of the time. So, if you set up a 3 pointer as your last gasp shot, right out of the gate there is a 2 out of 3 chance that you are going to lose the game. That's not negativity, is it facts and statistics.
I remember back in the days when Bill Foster was our coach, he had a player named Fred Gilliam. He had a set play that the team could run that would virtually GUARANTEE Gilliam would have an open look from just above the free throw line. He might make it or not, but that shot was there for the taking anytime he wanted, whenever they ran that play. Which they did, successfully, several times a game.
Lastly, teams are usually a reflection of their coach, and this Clemson team is no different. Their head coach does not inspire confidence, and the team plays the same. They play the last five minutes of games like they are just waiting for the other shoe to drop, and, guess what, it usually does. Now, since Brad Brownell is not going to do a personality makeover at this point, the best thing he could actually do for Clemson is to WALK AWAY after this miserable season is done. THAT is how he can fix it.

The first thing I would do is a self evaluation of what I want to accomplish . And if I want to achieve those 20 win seasons and to be a dominant threat you speak of I think I would have a good long sit down talk with the one man who has achieved those goals of having a dominant program. I would ask Dabo what his keys to successfully recruiting the type of talent it took to build the football program and then work from his blueprint. And if that is not what I wans ,and nees to do, IMO, then take the buy out and move to the beach.

Coaching has several areas that you have to be good at, talent evaluation, recruiting, talent development, game plans and even fund raising. If Brownell could solve these issues I'd think he would have by now. It's like me wanting a 50% three point shot average. I can study film of the greats, hit the gym and practice all I want but eventually I will hit the limits of my abilities. I think we've seen Brownell hit the limit of his abilities. I hear a lot of people talking about how poor a talent pool/team he's had to coach. This seems to be the Dan Mullen "I'm not worried about recruiting" mindset. Winning brings talent and that concept should be behind the majority of your coaching decisions.

I would enroll in a rhythm boot camp, say a 6-week program or something, and see if I could find a groove inside that could help me better understand game flow. Turn the uptight, stick up the bum approach I have in that area into a harmonic, free flowing presence in the coaches box.
Secondly, I would engage with the student body, ever. I would make sure to attend events and mingle with the kids I was ultimately coaching for, let them get to know the person behind the title and help to get them more emotionally involved in our success.
Lastly, I would go on a tour of successful college programs, meet with successful coaches, and learn everything I could about their approach to game planning, in-game adjustments, and coaching the end game.
