I'll try to keep this as realistic as possible. In the past

18 games Clemson has played, #13 SCAR, #14 LSU, #5 UGA, #5, FSU, #10 SCAR, #12 Ohio St., #12 UGA and last night #1 FSU. That's a tough slate. During those seasons Clemson has gone 11-2, 11-2, and 1-2 thus far.
Have we won all of those? No. Will we ever win all of those? Probably not. It's been a pretty daunting schedule. People shouldn't be satisfied with losing and I don't know that anyone here is.
What the optimists see as opportunity, the pessimists see as missed chances. I don't fault either side.
I think the most telling thing was that Vegas didn't move the line to a reasonable spot based on what we saw last night. Vegas still felt FSU had the horses to walk the dog on Clemson. Given all our mistakes/miscues, they probably should have, but Clemson dominated that game at the line of scrimmage. I also think we would have given Winston fits as well.
We left points on the board and turned the ball over at a terrible time late. Let's not forget also that Seckinger's TD had to be reviewed which got us in to the "Snap" situation. In turn there was no review on what I thought was a touchdown when CJ got in on his carry on 1st down....but none of that matters.
What matters, in my opinion, is that we have a freshman QB who looks like he can run this offense better than Tajh Boyd ran it. We have some very young talented WRs and RBs which will only improve. We have the best o-line class we've ever had coming in next year. The defense will have some holes to fill, but Alexander looks to be a great one along side Kearse and Johnson.
I'd never tell anyone not to be disappointed in the loss or the way the loss happened. But go back and watch that game again. Personally, I don't know that there is another team on the schedule (Outside of South Carolina) who truly has a chance to beat the Clemson team we watched last night.
Don't give me the, "but we need a kicker" etc ....the thing is, the team that played last night will put most teams to bed early. Our two losses were on the road early in the season and shouldn't kill the confidence of this young group. If anything it was a real chance for these guys to play on a big stage early.
You can be upset about the loss, you can be upset about the kicker, but you should be excited about the future. Not many teams win all of their games. Losing like we did last night stinks. But I for one am looking forward to seeing this team play the rest of the season.

after something like this, but covering it much closer than ever has given me a new respect for the game a a whole. I hate losing. I hate losing like we did, but I definitely saw things that give me the feeling that Clemson's not going anywhere.

I spent four years on the sidelines in the early 60's. Will run down the hill with the 64 team on Saturday. I agree 100% with what you said. Saw us win games we shouldn't have, saw us get blown out by top programs of that day. Saw us upset DUKE at Durham when Duke was good. Also saw us lose to USC in 1965 at home due to player attitude. We always lose seniors. so does everybody. The good thing now is we always reload. I hate losing also, but I agree we are not going anywhere. As with everyone, we have unrealistic fans who think if we ever lose a game their lives are ruined.

Well, when the shoe fits wear it. And IMO, the coot shoes fit you as well as any coot I've ever seen wearing a 3 toe shoe, coot.

I think the so-called "pumpers" realize for us to play as far from a perfect game as we did last night and still feel like we should've won bodes well for the future of the program.

I am not so confident about our D next year. our secondary should be world beaters, but Im not see a lot of younger guys step up in the front 7.

Hope ur right Swannie!
I do think our O will be tough to beat for years to come! Think about the O-line guys coming in and the talent all around right now at skill positions.

Still shaking my head over what has become a pattern for us against our main rivals - finding ways to lose. It'll be great whooping up on UNC and Wake, but I'm ready to start whooping up on FSU and the Coots.

Excellent post! I saw a lot more good things than bad things and can only visualize our O-line when our new guys come on board. I think our D-line will allow us to let younger players get a lot of experience.
I guess the drawback to playing a good first half is thinking you don't have to make adjustments in the second half. I think everyone except our defensive coaches knew FSU would start running those short passes to give their QB confidence and sustain drives. It worked to perfection until the 4th qtr when we finally decided to cover O''Leary!

Swann more or less addressed that by his 'they barely moved the line' comment. So it seems like Vegas and many other prognosticators did think it was a similar team.

Excellent post, El Swann. I,too, believe that the Tiger defense actually would have "given Winston fits." There is a whole lot of talent on both sides of the ball, but the offensive line needs to improve their play.

Sat night was encouraging and yet bitterly disappointing at

the same time.
That was essentially a ticket into the playoff. This year. With this young offense. I could taste it, smell it, anticipate the sweetness, yet we dropped the plate on the floor before it got to the table.
I would really like to see this team get on a roll, get some confidence, and beat the coots like it's 2003 all over again.
But man, what might have been.
Thanks for that schedule Swoffy. It's not like the ACC needs any primetime games in late OCt or Nov.
