..the earliest example we could find for “G.O.A.T.” used to mean ”greatest of all time” is from September 1992, when Lonnie Ali, Muhammad Ali’s wife, incorporated Greatest of All Time, Inc. (G.O.A.T. Inc.) to consolidate and license her husband’s intellectual properties for commercial purposes.

Circa 1964! RPO code to turn a Pontiac Tempest LeMans into

a Goat: 389, 4-sp, tri-power trip deuces, and red line, wide oval, Uniroyal Tiger Paws. Plus some leaded, high octane, ESSO (“put a Tiger in your tank”) fuel!
An under $500 option then makes a difference of well over $30k now of a non “true” GTO. The 65-67 with the stacked headlights were true masterpieces!

Best car ever; my '69 GTO 350 Hp,400 Cubic inch engine, automatic but with a 3 speed slap stick, hood mounted Tach, duel exhaust ,wide tires( can't remember the name brand right off), and an 8 track player. Top speed was rated at 180,if I recall .Top speed for me was 125 mph, while racing a Lincoln down Interstate 26 in the summer of '69. Only had it over 100 mph twice, but this was the days of CB radios, and I constantly had it in the 80 mph while convoying.

True story...friend of mine had a 65 GTO as his first car in the 70s. Been a gear head all his life. Had been looking for another one for 10-15 years with all the options his original had. Found one and bought it, and it had a VIN number exactly 50 off from his original car which he thought was cool.
He had kept the original "plate"(can't remember what they call it) which is something that came with the manual in those cars to identify it as "original" or something like that. He even kept a set of keys.
Turns out the seller had inverted a 2 and 7 in the VIN number and my friend actually bought the car he owned previously as a teen! This just happened about 6 months ago. Crazy coincidence!

And now... even when a player is just really good at any point... People use pictures of an actual goat to express this, thinking they are being clever. It’s quite an interesting trend.

the GOAT probably didn't mean much initially, probably only had to beat out a couple other clubbers for the title.
