Interesting comment by DH, "Practices need to be tougher"

Obviously he has seen something, talked to players, or talked to someone inside. I know that seemed to be a major issue with CTB's teams, they were soft.
The first thing Dabo wanted to do was toughen up practice. So he brought back the Paw Drill (Oklahoma drill), has two-a-days (which is now banned by NCAA), and focused on mental toughness.
You don't hear that type of vocabulary anymore from Dabo. I think maybe BV did such a good job of that, Dabo could focus on other aspects like facili

Twice I tried to type facilities and it entered my post, weird.
Anyway, what is allowed nowadays that would allow for tougher practice? I am all for it as this team seems to make horrible costly mistakes every game.

They use a Win-Drill now that the Paw Drill has gone the way of the dodo...

The NC2A has reeled in a lot of the collision opportunity drills, number of scrimmages and reduced live practice time to maximize player safety.
Not being there, unsure what if anything can be done to make it "tougher" so maybe DH has some ideas?
One thing I noticed reported this fall camp, it could have been others as well?, the staff held players from scrimmages, reason given "they didn't need the reps, which in turn allowed more reps for other players that did."

Well not only held out of fall practice, sounds like a lot of them sat out the spring practice as well. Look at how many potential starters didnt play in the Spring Game. True freshman playing a lot even over the supposed 2 deep players. That should have been an quick indicator that our talent is lacking after the starters.

Win-Drill is a 1 v 1 "blocking" drill where an offensive player is matched...

with a defensive player.
This sort of matching with some crossover:
OL v DL TE v LB WR-RB v DB
It's fine, it's contact and gets chippy, but not nearly the game simulation and competitive situation that is offered by Paw Drill.
The players I mentioned weren't held out for injury, they were held out for rest, having experience. One of which was Carter who later mentioned in the first game he was not in game shape. It was weird for someone to say, not sure exactly what was meant and not sure it was explored later? I don't know how anyone comes out of camp not in "game shape" or game ready unless they've been nicked up?
Here's the article from not Deborah Harry.

I find David Hood's analysis/reporting invaluable. It's always informative and fair. He tells it like it is. No sugar-coating ever. I follow his tweets during games to see his analysis. Far better IMO, than most of the broadcasters on TV.

Let’s go get Danny off the hemp farm to come in to toughen up practices. This team could use a little tobacco spitting a$$ chewing I’m not your momma toughness.

Its interesting how weve gone from soft, to tough, to soft again.

I remember when Chad Morris was hired and he talked about one of the first things he did was instill toughness on our team. And that he did. We went from a soft and inconsistent team early in Dabo’s tenure to much tougher and more aggressive. There was a mindset shift for sure.
Venables brought that same attitude the following year when he was hired.
I feel that we lost some of that when Elliott and Streeter were our OCs. And I don’t think Goodwin really adds a lot there either.
This is yet another example of how important having outstanding coordinators is, and it is certainly true for Dabo.

He had a major emphasis on the OL also. He actually wanted them to lose weight to make them quicker, more nimble and have more stamina. If he is analyzing this OL, he probably isnt giving many passing grades.
Who knew losing Parks would be so major?

Start going 1s against 2s on both sides of the ball at practice and sprinkle in the 3s and 4s for development. Obviously the scout team isn't doing an adquate job preparing the offense so send them to do other drills and the weight room until they can step it up.
I guarantee the Tigersv#2 DL will only help the #1 OL get better.
Injuries may happen but the survivors will play better.

You do realize Elliott was the OC when we won the two Natty’s… And Streeter was working closely with him at that time as well. Whatever you wanna call it soft or tough… It seemed to work.

Carter said "he wasn't in game shape". How are you not in game shape for the first game after having practiced for a month? Then all the fumbles made me wonder if the backs had been having enough contact in practice. And many times we just look slow and tentative. Seems like there is something too this. I remember Jeff Davis said once he couldn't wait until the game on Saturday because it would be much easier than practice under Danny.

He gets to sit a few series but not sure what from there. DH don't usually blow smoke up our tukas so I assume he has a good reason for the comment.
Besides that, they are playing soft so I am for tougher practices.
