It’s Official - Where does Deshawn Land?
Jan 28, 2021, 12:51 PM
|
|
Ok, announced this morning, where will Deshawn be traded? If the Texans were smart (they are not, the organization is a dumpster fire) the would accept the best deal possible. Miami, Jets, Carolina? He just wants out of Houston (as do many other of their players).
Thoughts or opinions?

Imagine the NFL career he'd be having if he'd sat that game out.

I hear DW4 likes former DC now Jets Coach Saleh. No no nada. Don’t make that mistake Mr. W unless you want a repeat of Houston.
We will never know what other teams bring to the table in terms of offers, but it will be an interesting NFL mini drama. Hoping MIAMI with CW42.

I'd probably call his bluff if I were Houston.

See if he truly will hold out. I know Watson is super rich, but that's still a ton of money he would give up by holding out.

How much is your health worth, when talking about just one more season in Houston. What ever it cost, he should leave bc, he will get paid well where ever he ends up!!!

If he wanted out, he shouldn't have signed a long term contract in a dumpster fire.
This is his own fault.
Houston would be idiots to trade him but they have made poor decisions in the past, so who knows.

They wouldn’t be as big or idiots as you think. Are you giving up a franchise qb, yes. But what would have been with him is pretty much over regardless if you hold the fire to him or not. Secondly, he is a hot commodity. You could do a total rebuild and what he allows you to get in return is a huge plus. It only makes since if you are thinking long term.

So being outright lied to by owner, you don't think that should have any bearings on what he should do. If it were me, and the Texans played hard ball, I would be there for every meeting, every practice, and every game, but them depending on me to be the QB that I had been, it would be totally out of my game plan, and to #### with theirs, period. They would continue writing checks to a player that would ever be getting hit or tackled by a defensive player while I was on that that team. The opposing secondary Int rate would go up for sure. And when they sent me in to play, I would hope that there were Clemson DBs on the opposing defense, so that I could help them with their Int stats!!!

Honestly this would be exactly what Houston needs

they could accumulate 2 more 1st rounders in the next two years along with what they would already have. Plus more picks in the 3rd and 4th for the next couple of years and the possibility of getting an experience loaner QB in the trade in either (Tua, Darnold, or Bridgewater.) DW4 is a top 5 QB but if he doesn't want to be there then whats that really worth?
BTW he signed that contract because he was promised to be consulted in all future hires. That doesn't mean he would have the final say...just consulted. He was not. They hired the new GM and he found out of twitter. Simple phone call would have been sufficient. DW4 knew where this was headed. So he's doing the right thing by asking to be traded.
His only mistake was he should've got that in writing b/c apparently McNairs word is about as flimsy as the skin of an onion.

Best for him is probably Miami

they have a really good defense there and decent running attack and decent recievers. He's used to only having decent recievers but is not used to the Defense helping out.
Next is Carolina. Better recievers and great complement in running back. Not sure they can afford that for long though. But the defense is about the same as Houston, maybe a tad better.
Jets..its all just potential. New coach? But same team with same problems. Might get more money there but not sure you'll be better off legacy wise in New Jersey. Horrible place to live though these days. Would stay south if possible just to get away from crazy lawmakers.

Correct. Does not appear that everyone has read the contract. A 4 year extension for 156 million that included a 27 million dollar signing bonus. Houston is on the hook for 21.6 of this 27 million dollar bonus whether he stays or is traded and it counts against their cap as well. Who in their right mind would flush 21.6 million down the toilet and lose cap space? In addition, Houston will require a boatload of players and/or high draft picks to be properly compensated which few teams will have the ability to offer. A trade makes zero sense for the Texans.

So you think they'll just bench him this year and eat that $

He said he's not playing for them next year. The only option is to create and even more bloated PR nightmare and make your organization even less desirable for other players. OR you can try to make a deal with someone that gives you multiple draft picks and options for future improvement. I think he's getting traded. I think unfortunately for Deshaun its going to be the JETs b/c they have the most to offer in trade value. Houston is going to go for whoever gives them the most. And with the Jets they won't have to face him every year.. I doubt he goes to the Colts who is in their division. Panthers don't really have enough wiggle room as far as cap space goes (unless they get really creative), Dolphins is probably 2nd but how much are they willing to give up (Tua is a top 5 pick though), everyone else is outside looking in but anything is possible.
I hope its the dolphins or the panthers.

I hope it's the Jets, as I live nearby and would like a reason to watch them. And they do have a lot of potential...but as constituted today are not watchable.
But I'm good with whatever he decides, he's got to do what's best for him.
I work in an office building that's about a 1/2 mile from their practice facility, would be nice if there was some buzz in the local sports news.

Houston. I would only trade him for 3 first round picks. He signed that new deal knowing that the organization had just traded away his only weapon. They did not get him any oline support. He made the choice. Play there or retire. They have the control. They can draft another QB and move on . It's time some of these players learn. Just my opinion .
