New dishwasher being installed......
Mar 7, 2018, 3:32 PM
|
|
Here I thought that just once, it might be simple....dude could show up, take the old one out, install the new one, and be on his way, new dishwasher.
Nope. first issue was him not being allowed to re-use a copper supply line for it so he had to go get some T fitting and charge me extra, then the knuckle-dragger tried to put shims under it when they weren't needed, making it too high, and the control panel got scratched AF when he tried to put it up and it hit the bottom of the granite.
Now I get to go through this process again in a week or so when the replacement arrives.
Nuthin is ever simple. nuthin.

There was a "baseboard" in the way and he wasn't contractually allowed to remove it. If he had just touched the piece of baseboard, he would realize it was already cut and just placed like a puzzle piece. These installers aren't the most educated human beings.

They do that #### on purpose. Now he can get another job to come out and do it again and [insert box store name] will pay for it again or charge you extra.

If you want something done right ya gotta do it yourself.
Installing a dishwasher is too simple to have someone else do it.

Our COULDN'T be installed by the delivery peeps because hardwired.
luckily, I've got 4 or 5 DW swaps under my belt, so it only took EIGHT ####### HOURS.
the f'ing supply elbow and wiring restraints don't come with the DW itself, so I had to go get them. The drain hose that came with it was too short, so I undid most of it, removed that drain hose and got the one from the old DW....same #### length. Realized it wasn't so much that the drain hose was too short, but rather I shoulda just disconnected it at the garbage disposal side. (i'd drank quite a bit at this point, soooooo)
Then, for the life of me, I couldn't get the supply connected without leaking. Frustration was making it worse....took a step back for an hour or so, went back and threaded it on first try.
So yeah, what was I saying?

a) It was free to get the install. Well, $149, and I got a $149 rebate card.
b) Due to a loophole, I didn't have to pay sales tax on the dishwasher because I "paid" to have it installed.
tl;dr.....It would have cost me $80 to install it myself.

it doesn't help your experience.
Put your daily driver up in the garage, no need to see that. Park that old Chevy truck you bought out in the driveway and pop the hood. I know you've got an old Guns N Roses shirt or something you could cut the sleeves off of, you're going to need it. Don't take the stereotype you're attempting to replicate too far though, I like to just wear board shorts...Jorts would be too much IMO. Pop open a beer and and wait. Go ahead and crank the Chevy up, start revving it as if you're working on it as he drives up. Approach him with beer in hand, and the best Walhalla accent you can muster. I guarantee they won't pull any B.S. like that on you. Maybe subtly hint about smoking weed or doing something illegal from time to time to get them relaxed, you want them to trust you.

you get a lot better service if you blend in as much as possible with the people you're trying to work with. I've seen the change in people's demeanor happen almost immediately just by saying something you figure they'll agree with. I could tell the movers who moved my grandparents furniture generally weren't too fond of white people, a couple of jokes about line dancing and crooked cops and we're getting along like we've been best friends for years.

truth.
I'm wasn't above donning my work uniform with the cursive "Ryan" patch and "talking shop" with the dudes who were doing warranty work on my old house.
Talking about how the foreman is a real sunnovabitch, how much overtime you've been getting and sticking it to the man, that type of stuff.

Still, if you know what you're doing, you can do it MAYBE 30-45 minutes. Mine came with a plug and a box and I had to wire from the box to the outlet myself. The wiring took at least 10-15 minutes. THEN getting my fat #### under the sink to tack up and loop the drain hose was a beotch. THAT took like 30 minutes. Rest was fairly easy, other than having to remove the top wood block from the bottom of the countertop..... and use side mounts because otherwise too high.

Paid way less. Actually the store screwed up and charged me $100 less than their sticker price. Was $750 before tax. They should have charged me $850 plus tax. Would recommend. Quiet as a mouse. On the heavy wash setting you can barely hear it 5 feet away. Only problem is the racks are not as good as our last one IMO. Still work well though. Top (3rd) rack is nice for long knives, spatulas, and long, skinny things. Oh, and the first few times you run it there's a smell. Kind of a chemical small like a new car or something. It goes away though and isn't noticeable at all now.

where it collects. Basically everything's dry where water doesn't collect. WAY better than our last one though where you had to shake off everything upon removal. One thing I'm not too keen on is you have to use a rinse liquid. It's not a big deal, and it helps dry the dishes better. One refill of the reservoir lasts like 30 washes, and one bottle of the stuff probably lasts a few hundred washes.

I just finished reading the manual. (yeah, that's where I find myself at 43....reading dishwasher manuals as I drink bourbon---exactly where I thought I'd be when I was 20). You can adjust the volume on that alarm, and disable it altogether.

I put my dishes outside when they call for rain. I set them all out and rub some bar some on it and let nature do its thing. Tough stains, just set it near a fire ant hill and it should be clean in a couple hours.

they only brought 2 guys to haul off the old one. Left it on the porch saturday but came back with 5, I repeat 5 guys and they hauled it off yesterday.
New fridge was simple to hook up and they brought their own supply lines and took away the copper. Only problem now is the new fridge itself, which pisses its pants in the ice maker and thus clogs up the hole with a giant ice block. Not their fault though.
