Not popular with me either but need 8 teams in CFP

If Alabama, Clemson and OSU have good years they will almost be an automatic section for CFP every year taking 3 of the 4 selections. That leaves Big 12, PAC 12 and Notre Dame competing for the last spot. It’s not fair to those teams in those conferences even if, say a SoCal and Oklahoma is undefeated. CFP committee wants the playoffs to be a huge national TV audience each year. The quality of the first round playoff games will drop but it is something rage needs to be done. Expand to 8 teams. Each Power 5 gets an automatic selection. Then have 3 at large spots or maybe one Group of 5 team and 2 at large selections.

When they put this together they knew the GO5 had no place in it. In fact ,the ACC was supposed to be the odd man out. Now that the BIG10,BIG12 & Pac12 don't perform good enough to qualify most years, it's time to change the rules . BULLSHYT !The whole intention of the PLayoff was to make sure you got the Top 2 teams, not #4 right and not to give everyone a chance .You earn that each week on the field.

If the other schools/conferences want in, they just need to win their games. There is not a secret handshake to get in, only winning.
Plus, OU and OSU will each be now 4 out of 7 playoffs. PAC 12 only two teams thus far. But that’s not the fault of the format, they just haven’t been any good. Let USC to 13-0 or 12-1 in a normal season and they’ll be in also.

My point exactly. If it’s between an undefeated team from the PAC 12 and an undefeated team from the ACC the PAC 12 team will be left out. They have no chance even if they are undefeated when comparing them to a team with an equal record from another conference.

An undefeated P5 conference champion has never been left out. USC would be just fine in your scenario. Just need to win their games. The regular season matters.

Agree with MTTRT. Thinking back to the pre playoff days, are there 6 additional teams that have a viable claim to being the best team in the country, if only #1 plays #2? I think the argument that 8 schools should be in the playoff this year is based on 8 teams making a viable claim to be in the top 4. Then a few short years later, my question will be in response to the next push to expand, “are there 16 schools that have a viable claim to be the best team in the country?”

Agree with Herbie, the state of college football is not good.
If they don’t fix it, the NLI and other initiatives will end everything as we have known it.

"They will load 8 with SEC teams"
Or a 14 team playoff so they can fit the entire SEC in it, even Vandy.

This is getting silly. Is anyone arguing that there are more then 3 teams that are potentially the best team in the country? We ended up with the playoff after having 3 teams that were arguably the best in the country. The prize isn't getting into the playoff, the prize is winning the national championship. I don't see anyone saying they think there are more then 4 teams that are the best team in the country.

just be more blowout city with a really good game every few years. No need to expand.

No. 3 Clemson 29, No. 2 Ohio State 23
2019 No. 2 Clemson 30, No. 3 Notre Dame 3 BLOWOUT
No. 1 Alabama 45, No. 4 Oklahoma 34 BLOWOUT
2018 No. 3 Georgia 54, No. 2 Oklahoma 48 (2OT)
No. 4 Alabama 24, No. 1 Clemson 6 BLOWOUT
2017 No. 1 Alabama 24, No. 4 Washington 7 BLOWOUT
No. 2 Clemson 31, No. 3 Ohio State 0 BLOWOUT 2016 No. 1 Clemson 37 No. 4 Oklahoma 17 BLOWOUT
No. 2 Alabama 38, No. 3 Michigan State 0 BLOWOUT

And since we are already having tons of blowouts, what’s a few more gonna hurt? I would take 2 more blowouts every year if it meant 1 extra great big stakes game.

Hard pass unless they find a way to max at 15 games and only take conference champs. Don’t care to see 3-4 SEC teams in the playoffs every year
