So the board wants PAWS to contribute to the demise of millions of people , so that millions of dollars can be secured from the brewers of beer. Sad day for all Clemson Tigers and their families. Is the board drunk ?

And we’ve already had beer sponsors they just couldn’t use the paw. How is this any different other than them getting to put a tiger paw on an ad?

Lot 5 before a game in the 1980's. Beautiful horses. People have no clue how much more sober, and how much more of a family atmosphere Clemson has now compared to the 70's and 80's. I saw more fights, IN THE STADIUM, at the 87 UGA game than I have in the past two decades total at Clemson. And that includes all games, tailgating, and my entire time 4 years there as a student. Place used to be nuts with drunks for USC and UGA games, especially.

I can't tell if this is a joke or not, but it takes some real mental gymnastics to think that the use of a Tiger paw in a "drink responsibly" campaign "contributes to the demise of millions of people"...

If y'all would actually read the article, it's a "Drink Responsibly" campaign.
"During the university’s quarterly Board of Trustees meeting this month, the trustees agreed to allow JMI Sports LLC, the official multimedia rights and corporate sponsorship partner for Clemson, to explore using the university’s trademarks in conjunction with a “drink responsibly alcohol related athletics sponsorship.”
But if I'm being honest, It wouldn't bother me if they had Tiger paws on beer cans. Just because some people abuse something, doesn't make it inherently bad. Light'en up, folks.

Here is the quote from the article:
"Now, JMI Sports has university permission to talk to “branded malt beverage” companies to see if any want to strike a deal to use the Tiger Paw on ads, with the requirement that an educational “drink responsibly” message is visible, according to the plan outlined by JMI Sports."
Don't misread this as purely a "drink responsibly" campaign. We are exploring selling our logo for booze ads with the caveat that a "drink responsibly" message must be visible with any add using the Paw.
Personally - I would rather we not stamp our Tiger Paw on booze ads - there's just some things we don't need to do and to me this is one of them. What's next - putting a Paw on cigarette adds with the caveat it include a cancer warning? Is Clemson this hard up for money we are exploring this kind of stuff?

In campaigns. So is using the tiger paw instead of saying “official beer of the Clemson Tigers” really that big of a deal?
And to answer your question about money, when our conference distribution is significantly less than the SEC and B1G, we need all the money we can get however I’m not expecting Clemson cigarette ads anytime soon.

Just speaks to the arbitrariness of what we deem as "harmful".
Clemson sells greasy, carlorie-packed food items in the concession and you can go by 15 burgers and 15 hotdogs, eat until you vomit, and wash all that down with a sugar Coke with a big Clemson paw on the cup, and keep living that way until you die of heart disease.
So what? It's alcohol. Fairly nuetral in moderation and harmful in excess.
The Clemson paw on something alcohol-related isn't an endorsement of binge drinking or alcoholism. It's just an economic decision rooted in a morally-neutral industry.

Typical misleading headline from The State
Oct 31, 2018, 10:38 AM

Ever since they went subscription (I clear my cookies), they hired some specialist to pollute the website with clickbait headlines. All too often you find the article and headline do not match. Case in point here.
I would probably have a problem with the paw and logo being used on beer bottles, and in ads. But in the context of a "drink responsibly" public service type of ad, not a problem for me, or most people I'd assume.
Stupid headline....

I would hate this. I'm ok with branding, but not alcohol, tobacco, etc. It smells of a sellout, and a responsible drinking campaign is window dressing. This would indicate a huge shift in Clemson culture.
"Tom Stultz, the president of JMI Sports, said that no alcohol ads will be targeted to people under the age of 21." Seeing as it's illegal to do otherwise, doesn't mean much.

The Tiger PAW is sacred and should not be tied to any product or service other than Clemson University. If the Tiger paw is polluted , so is the culture of Clemson University polluted.
Once polluted the stain can never be removed.

Clemson licensing a drink responsibly campaign from MillerCoors or AB, okay.
Clemson licensing a drink responsibly campaign by MillerCoors or AB where they let them use the paw, we’re all permanently doomed.
Heck of a hill to die on there

YEAH! You have to be a Gamecock to think the Clemson logo wouldn't kill a billion people if it was used in a drink responsibly campaign!
It should only be used on helmets, jersey and Bibles, or else you're a Coot!

I read the entire article and it’s still vague as to how it would be used exactly. Not on a six pack but then what? Is it just in conjunction with a message as in the paw near the message on an ad? Or is it physically on beer bottles/cans. Need more information. Yes to the message. No to use in cans/bottles.
