Playoff Selection Committee Members

I reviewed the bios of the committee members this morning. Here they are.
https://collegefootballplayoff.com/sports/selectioncommittee/roster
After doing so, it surprises me even more that they left FSU out. Two of the 13 members have strong ACC ties (Corrigan/NCSU AD & Jim Grobe/WFU HC) compared to one member with SEC ties (Barnhart/UK AD). Another member is Michigan AD, Warde Manuel. I wouldn’t think he’s too excited to be matched up against Bama. Only one other member has ties to the south in Rod West being a Tulane grad. All the other members are from west coast & northeastern region. I also could see where members like Chet Gladchuk (Navy AD), Will Shields (Neb grad) and Joe Taylor (Virginia Union admin) would not “punish” the FSU team over losing Jordan Travis.
All that being said, I am even more convinced that broadcasting & corporate interests had a strong influence on the final four. And when I say “strong”, I mean like overall influence on who got in. I just can’t believe that those 13 folks came to a consensus to leave FSU out.

Agree. Let the teams with the best record play the game and it will be decided on the field who’s the best and who’s not. It shouldn’t be up to a committee. That’s why they play.

Maybe there is no conspiracy.
Maybe the committee’s decision had nothing to do with FSU being in the ACC.
Maybe FSU was left out because they were not one of the four best teams.

And yet no other team was able to prove on the field they were better than FSU. However, Texas and Alabama both ran into teams that were able to prove they were better on the field. The results on the field say FSU is one of the four best.

#13 LSU trumps Texas’ loss to #12 Oklahoma & UT’s 12-1 record. Those are the facts. FSU should be in over Texas.

Maybe with all those ties and overlooking FSU They actually thought Bama was the best team to put in. What you are saying is instead of being biased toward Bama they should be biased toward FSU FSU would get pounded by UGA, OSU, and Oregon as well as the top 4

FSU would beat Bama, uga, Oregon, osu, the Miami dolphins, the 82 Lakers, and those scrappy kids from the sandlot by a field goal.

“All that being said, I am even more convinced that broadcasting & corporate interests had a strong influence on the final four.”
Yes - and this should be the case. It actually is the main influence. This is a made for tv post season four team tournament.
All else being equal or near equal - put the teams in that are most likely to provide compelling theater. In most cases there is little wiggle room for the committee.
On occasion like this year and year one - there is a lot of wiggle room.

Remember around 2019 all we heard was people have Alabama and Clemson fatigue and we need to get other teams in the playoffs? Yeah…not so much it’s seems. What they meant was they wanted Alabama in every playoff and preferred not to have teams in that could beat Alabama every other game.

Does the voting have to be unanimous...

or are the final four determined by a majority vote?
I believe the process involves each member listing their top four teams. The four teams receiving the most votes will comprise the CFP in which case, Corrigan and Grobe may have voted for FSU while the other members didn't.
That said, I firmly believe the four letter network influenced the final four team that were ultimately selected.

Not surprised at all. They were never going to leave the SEC champion out. Texas beating Bama pigeon holed them into the decision. Do I believe Bama would beat FSU? Yes Is the eye test a reason to leave FSU out and not play the game? No.

I wont argue that Bama should not be in.

I will argue that 13-0 FSU should be in over 12-1 Texas. That’s obvious to me.

selection process. We play the games for a reason. Bama loses to Auburn if not for a boneheaded coaching move. No eye test there.

If you feel like this happened just because of one committee you need to start thinking bigger....................WAY BIGGER
