President Trump is expected to officially announce

that he will run for another term in 2024. I'd like to think his star has faded among conservatives, but I learned in 2016 not to underestimate his support.
Conservative voters will be faced with this choice, IMO:
1. President Trump and a hotly contested 2024 election against what will probably be a very unpopular Democratic candidate...an election he could very easily lose.
2. Almost anyone else, who I believe would walk the dog in the general election against the unpopular Democratic candidate.
The Republicans were too fractured in 2016, which caused President Trump to win the nomination with a plurality of conservative support. Conservatives should rally behind a single good candidate. If that candidate is Governor DeSantis, then that would be just fine by me. He would get my vote in the primary, and in the general election. And America would be better for it.

but I am not 100% sure he'd be good as president. He has neocon tendencies that lead me to believe he'd be like George W:
He'd talk a good game on the economy He'd talk a good game on social issues He'd talk a good game on staying out of wars
Then once elected:
He'd get us into as many wars as possible and totally abandon everything else.

Trump is not the problem. The GOP base is the problem.

Trump is a symptom of the problem.
The GOP has learned nothing from the recent elections. It's going to take more losing for them to learn the lessons needed.

That's why my post was a plea to the "GOP base", not to President Trump. If they want a good president, it's up to them to choose one.

That sounds like my Marjorie Taylor Greene-voting idiot sister. She blamed Democrats for electing Trump because they hadn't supported Romney.
Let me break it to you. Democrats don't have an obligation to any of your nominees. If you lose, blame yourselves.

Trump's support is already baked in the cake. If he is the nominee, the Dems will win.
People evaluated Trump in 2016, 2020 and since he has been constantly inserting himself in politics, also in 2022. Many people have a visceral dislike of him.
His support crested in 2016 and he only won because Hillary is about as likable as gonorrhea.
For the sake of the Republican Party he should stand down. The same more importantly goes for the country, but Trump is about Trump.
He's beatable within the GOP if there are only one or two candidates standing early on in the primary season.
He's wasting his time and will only lead to more chaos.
We need a competent and measured candidate to take out Biden as I expect Biden will run again and clearly is far past the stage of mental competence to be President now, much less from 2024-2028.

Biden has every reason to run again, after the mid-terms. With no obvious candidate in the wings, he should probably keep the nomination. At least he has an administration of people who know how government works. (It cracks me up when people talk about his intelligence... as opposed to Trump?)
The GOP created Trump when Obama was President. They spent eight years as the party of obstruction without articulating a clear governing message. Nobody knew what they stood for. Then when the 2016 primaries came along, it was the TV reality show star and a dozen dwarves. Trump won easy
As John Boehner well said, the two most surprised people at the result of the 2016 election were Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump!
The GOP became enamored with the celebrity who attracted voters (albeit, only in one election) and gave him a long leash because he gave them what they wanted - tax cuts and a SCOTUS majority.
Now the GOP is in a huge bind. And they still haven't articulated a governing agenda. Leading into the mid-terms, there was talk about a new "Contract with America" but they didn't even try. The complain about crime but have no plan. The party is going to have a hard time agreeing on a speaker, presuming they take the House by a narrow margin.
The great thing about the current election is that none of the losers are complaining about the process. Nobody is attacking the democracy.
DeSantis would be formidable but beatable... particularly as Trump has tarnished the GOP plan. Can you imagine of all the MAGAts stayed home? But if this election proved one thing, it is that a lot of voters don't approve insurrection.
