Enough of these unproven guys from small colleges. To win at Clemson I think you need a proven name

Neither way is foolproof; it's a gamble either way.

Mind you, if we could get a really big name, like a coach who has won an NCAA title or two, or even has multiple final 4 appearances, then yeah; but we're not likely to get a coach that has been THAT successful. That leaves us with the next tier, and those guys are not necessarily more likely to succeed than coaches who have succeeded at smaller colleges. The main thing we need is not only a winner at some level, but a guy that can RECRUIT.

Clemson is a bottom tier job in P6 no question. If that coach is out there, he either A) already has a better job than Clemson or B) is going to warrant attention from jobs much better than Clemson

For the young successful coach with a lot of energy. I'd want someone who wants to be at Clemson for twenty years...who wants to re-create the mindset of Clemson basketball and make that his legacy. Someone who will do the hard work with recruiting.
If you pay a "proven guy" a lot of money, how do you know it will get you anything? Will he have the same drive? Is he going to take the time to sell Clemson and all we have to offer? Or is he going to Spurrier the whole thing and sell his name for a couple years before he starts totally phoning it in?
I think the reason people point to Will Wade is that they think he is that you up-and-comer that also has a Clemson tie. So he may have the drive and energy, know how to coach, AND commit to the program rather than using it as a stepping stone. That would be ideal in my mind. I'm not saying I think Will Wade is that person, but that is the thinking, I believe.

Anyone know Will? While he was here very quiet and like an old soul. Good man. Not a real enthusiastic kind of coach. Very smart. Young doesn't translate to Coach Swinney.

going to get a major conference retread that's likely been let go by another school or we are going to get a relatively unproven coach from a smaller conference.
We just aren't in a position to hire somebody really successful away from a power conference school.

Gregg Marshall
He would recruit the best players in the state and area, and perhaps be able to land Zion.

would never leave WSU for Clemson cause we won't pay him. And he wouldn't want to be second fiddle to Dabo.

No, no, no, no - Go Chris Holtmann from Butler - He'd be a 20 game winner for us and get us into NCAA's every year for the next 15 at least - this guy can recruit too!

I am not trying to start anything but the last I saw we had a BB coach and he is a very high quality fellow. Now if Radikovich thinks it is time we need a new one then it is entirely up to him and the Bd. and I will back them. I remember when we hired Radikovich I thought that it was a bad hire but I have been proven wrong. I do have people who can back me up on the Dabo hire. I thought that was a great hire and these guys as I said heard me say all along that Dabo was a good hire. If we give BB a little longer and he does not pan out then I will agree with you guys. We have had some recent BB coaches that have pulled a spurrier and just up and left us in the lurch. I think if BB were to turn things around he would not just leave us in a lurch for another school.
