Yes, it was a team failure on offense and that includes Coach Elliott. We will improve AND gel. Just a tough opener for a young offense. Those guys have played together very little.

I don't think our offense has executed well in ANY season opener for a long time (maybe the entire Swinney era).
Particularly the running game takes several weeks for all the O-line guys to get their timing down. We use several traps and option plays that rely on pulling linemen where a split-second makes a huge difference. For some reason we are just as sloppy in first games as Alabama is crisp.
A few years ago in the season opener SC St stopped us on 4th-and-1 in the first half on our side of midfield. We ended up winning by 40 points, but our best O-line of the Swinney era couldn't pound for 1 yard against an FCS school.
We'll get there. DJ has just proven that he isn't Trevor yet, and might never be. But we do have to utilize our entire team, which we sometimes didn't do with Trevor and Travis.

I felt sad for DJ, blaming himself, saying the OL did fine

The OL, game-planning, play-calling, and lack of adjustments by Elliott were AWFUL, but it was nice of DJ not to throw anybody under the bus, like Elliott did in his post-game interview.
DJ didn't play a perfect game but most of the sacks were unavoidable due to the speed of the sackers and the perfect collapse of a tight-pocket.
Throughout camp we heard how the coaches had to take Bresee and Davis off the field because the OL couldn't block them. Yet somehow the coaches either expected (beyond rationality) that the OL could block UGA's similarly excellent front-seven or the coaches failed to game-plan for it.
We need a better OC. Elliott is just OK, not great.

Elliott is only the most successful OC in Clemson history.. let's fire him.
The OL didn't run block or pass block worth a flip, and even on the quick plays we were left running there were breakdowns. Then on top of that DJ was doing nothing to help. He was not moving in the pocket and buying time, and he never did just tuck it and run to keep the defense honest.
Elliott called plays, but the plays were HORRIBLY executed.
What would you suggest he should have done differently?

DJ looked like a clown in that post-loss interview. He came out dressed like a pimp with his stupid big cinco jewelry. I knew last year his lack of humility and tireless self-promotion by him and his dad would be a problem. Now, the ncaa has allowed them to sell their name, image and likeness... HUGE mistake.
DJ had his target in mind in the huddle, if that did not materialize, he does not have the presence of mind to go to plan B, plan C, etc. He panicked and ate the turf.
Dabo needs to generate some genuine humility into him pretty quickly. He is becoming another cam newton caricature before he even played his first game as QB1 in college.
I still have hope but his very real big arm talent is not going to make up for a lack of decision making ability and his overwhelming lust for celebrity status.

I know, you’d think that at least ONCE in 9 tries, he’d spell “condescending” and “you’re” correctly.

1.) Yes, DJ needs to get through his reads better. That will improve! 2.) Against a defense as fast and physical as UGA's he will have a difficult time running (designed or scramble). DJ has the speed and mobility of a Big Ben (right now) with a cannon for an arm. This speed and mobility can still be developed 3.) Cut the #### with the personal attacks. The way he dresses is his style and he should be himself.

Sucked!!!!! He was absolutely terrible. That was absolutely the most horrific QB performance I have ever witnessed, by far!!! He looked like a little scared middle school QB playing against a Varsity team…..he was pitiful!!!!!! The play calling was also pitiful and predictable…..absolutely atrocious!!!! Tony Elliott needs to get his head outta his ####. We have been wandering in the dark since Jeff Scott left. Need to replace Elliott ASAP!!!!! Bench DJ NOW….bench him….hell, the backups couldn’t be any worst…..no way in this world. He sucks!!!!!!!!!

While I appreciate him manning up and taking responsibility for his own play, he doesn't have to cover for everyone else's shortcomings. Pretty much everyone from the OC down crapped the bed on the offensive side of the ball. Can't hang the rest of that on DJ.

I don’t think he deserves credit for saying that, I mean, how could he NOT say that after that performance. He looked lost and unprepared out there.
When I saw him walk into stadium before the game dressed like a pimp I knew we were going to have problems. He struts around like he has a couple Nattys already, but the reality is that he hasn’t done or accomplished anything yet.
I get that he isn’t in the same class as Deshaun or Trevor were, I’m not expecting that level of play, but his actions thus far are extremely disappointing. At least we have Cade coming in this spring to compete for the job.

Why didn’t we give our backup quarterback a chance at some point in the game?
