we should stay in the acc
May 22, 2012, 2:24 AM

This past week i let the media hype get to me and wasnt thinking so i like most others was thinking b12. Big mistake. We go to b12 we can forget winning any kind of conf champ for years to come maybe even a decade or 2 if ever. Losses will go up and we wont even come close to the playoffs. Right now it looks like the acc will be left behind but thats short sighted. No way they stay with the 4 team format. Within 2 years it is sure to be expanded to about 8 teams then the acc has a legitimate shot at a slot. Stay in the acc and we will continue playing for and winning conf championehips........go to the b12 and we will be mediocre unspectacular.....an also ran. Its a much easiar route to a national title staying put. Patience.

I think our football team is better than people give it credit for...we can win, we just need to be coached properly. I think Dabo, while not a great coach himself, has to right coaches in placee to win in the Big 12

We are losing to the likes of nc state and wake on a fairly reg basis now. We go to the b12 and exactly what do you think would happen? We would be just like the coots have been for the last 10 years. 6-5 or 7-5 yearly.....in other words say hello to mediocrity. We stay in the acc we will remain the good team u guys speak of. As long as the other teams dont jump and bolt we will be ok.

we have the tendency to beat a top 10 team one week and lose to BC the next. The notion of playing in a tough conference shouldn't be a reason to stay put. Pressure makes diamonds, right?

together before jumping into the fire. Join the Big 12 and get our butts handed to us. Fire five or six coaches and continue to pay them for another ten years. Yep, that is the way to go and the way to spend that increase in revenue.

You bring up who we lose to when we play bad. Who could we beat when we play good? I think we could have beaten every team in the Big 12 except OKSt last year if we played well.

If the rest of the ACC was following our orders, I'd agree

however, VT gets a call from the SEC, they'll leave. FSU has already let slip they are willing to leave.
You lose our football powerhouses, Clemson becomes the Boise State of the ACC. You may beat some OOC opponents like Georgia and SCar, but you won't get the credit because our SOS is too low.
If we lose VT and FSU, ND won't join. So who in our conference besides us could be consistently a top 25 team? MAYBE Miami, and thats not likely to happen again.
(Assuming FSU Leaves) Staying put isn't an option if we want to be competitive at the national level. I said this before, but voters said early season last year that they weren't going to put Boise State above 5 because of their schedule. I didn't know a single Clemson fan that felt otherwise either.

if VT and FSU bolt for greener pastures sure Clemson could have their run of the ACC but nobody would take the ACC seriously...just like nobody takes the ACC seriously now. Our best shot is in the Big XII. So yeah I agree.

I agree. The ACC has never been the football powerhouse. But I remember when Boise State wasn't heard of. Alabama wasn't doing so hot. Florida has a few down years. The SEC as a whole has been solid, but its different teams. The Big 12 has had some good runs, and so has the Big 10, along with the PAC 12. College Football is cyclical. It just goes around and around. If you keep chasing conference money around you will just keep going around in circles too. I think if everyone in the ACC makes the commitment to the ACC it can be one of the best. Fifth best last year yes, but until the games are played this year who knows how good the ACC is this year.

And inspite of all the hype,if FSU,and or Miami go to the Big 12,and say N.C State and Va.Tech go to the SEC,what then? And using your argument, the ACC will be left behind because it is not a "four team "playoff (format),but the winners of a "four superconference " playoff (format);those four conferences being The SEC,The Big 10,The Big 12,and the PAC 10. Those four superconferences would dominate college football, and the now waterdowned ACC(if those 4 teams should leave) would keep the ACC from being one of those conferences aand its winner, even with an undefeated season would not be in the playoff's. In other words,if Clemson is not part of one of these superconferences, there will no NC scenari.

The ACC has and always will cater to the NC basketball schools. And not just in basketball either...
When the ACC baseball tournament was in Greenville, SC it was second only to the College World Series as far as attendance goes but we had to move it because it was too much like home field advantage for Clemson. So it was moved to DURHAM, NC. This year it is in Greensboro.
Yeah, we should stay in the ACC (Anti Clemson Conference)

I really don't understand this "scared" mentality...
May 22, 2012, 7:30 AM

People with this attitude shouldn't be watching, or associate with competitive athletics. I've always lived by the motto "if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best". But whatever, to each his own.
The one and only reason we are leaving has nothing to do with that anyways. It's 100% about money. We can't keep up with S. Carolina and the other schools around us that we recruit against by staying in the ACC. Sad fact I know, but it's where we are in today's age. TV is running college football now and we have to adapt and move to where we get paid the most, or we get left behind. Thank goodness it sounds like our leadership was paying attention and will keep us at the highest level of competition.
It's that simple in my mind. But I'm not scared to play against the Big XII; I relish the opportunity! What an exciting time!

agreed. the big 12 (which isn't going to happen anyway for clemson) would be a huge mistake and people would be crying to get back into the acc. that being said, even the big 12 commissioner has come out and said the league is comfortable with 10 teams, with the conference perhaps max-ing out at 12 in the future. no signs at all clemson would be one of the two additions. GO TIGERS!

The dust will settle, the ACC survives, and Clemson is stuck in some mish mash non-regional conference being Oklahoma and Texas's #####, but why ruin all the fun with talk like that?

anything. Look at USC. For years they were a SEC punching bag, but with those SEC $, they've elevated there play. We're certainly a better team than they were when they joined the SEC. More money will help us compete. Heck even right now, Oklahoma is the only team I really see us having a problem with year in and out. TX is very beatable. My only reason for not wanting the ACC to stay together is regionally rivals. I liked road trips to Boston etc. and the NC schools are right down the road for me. I will never road trip to Aimes, Iowa! But if everybody leaves who wants to get stuck playing Duke. I'd be okay if FSU, GT, and ?NCST or Miami went with us.

I'm sure the big boy conferences will branch out and include them in the playoff picture eventually and it will be real easy to win a championship!
It's simple - we either be proactive and control our position in college football or others will do it for us.

If we are going to continue to be mediocre we can move to the Big 12 and be mediocre there at the tune of 20+ million more a year. But I'm tired of being mediocre.
If we are going to win it all we can win it all in the Big 12 just as easily as here in the ACC. If our football program is improving as much as I believe it to be then I want to be assured of a shot at the top game.
Our opportunity to make it to the NCG while in the ACC may last a couple of more years IF no one leaves.
I'm not ready to roll the dice expecting to be mediocre. Reach for the ring!
