Pitt beat Penn State (Big 10 Champ) last year

Syracuse lost to Middle Tennessee. It's an uglier loss at this point in the season. Not insurmountable, but definitely a worse loss. However, Syracuse could win a lot more games this year and make it seem not as bad by the end of the year.

Pitt was at home with a healthy Desean Watson, Syracuse was on the road with injured QB so it's a wash.

How about 2011...
37-13 loss to 5-5 unranked NC State team (we beat VA Tech on the road and won the ACC in 2011) 70-33 loss to West Virginia in the Orange Bowl

If this is our only loss this year, then I can say this for both the 2016 and 2017 teams. We pick GREAT weekends to lose. Both times we lost games we shouldn't have lost the same weekend that other top teams had even crazier losses. It pays to be lucky sometimes....even in a loss.

Dabo says the story is about Syracuse, but thats

just coach speak.
Last year was about a prepared Pitt team that exposed a discipline issue which was a flaw in our coaching.
This year was about Clemson being unprepared. I know you can't lose a game to a team that doesn't score any points, but that's as much credit as SU gets--they scored their own points. Our players were open when we needed them to be; we just didn't complete passes that the offense requires to work. Totally avoidable and fixable.
Our defense played with a laziness we have yet to see. Likely just thinking Syracuse would just lay down. That's as coachable as covering a shovel pass. Totally avoidable and fixable.
The only thing I'm not sure we can't fix is our kicking game. I know Dabo always says it's about confidence, but I'm looking at Spence kick vs Heugel and there is a fundamentals divide that's as wide as the Mississippi.

This year we have much tougher games remaining. GT-good, NcSt-very good, Fsu-talented, Uscjr-away. Last year the rest of schedule was pure trash prior to ACCCG. Still, with healthy KB we should be ok. Without, there's probably going to be an L in there.
